Listening to Tribes and understanding Tribal priorities drives our programs and services we offer.

TAMS Professional Development

The TAMS Center offers technical training on a variety of air quality assessment topics. To date, over tribal professionals have been trained by the TAMS Center, representing more than tribes.

TAMS Center courses are designed to complement other American Indian Air Quality Training Program (AIAQTP) training, generally addressing advanced air quality knowledge and skills. Each course is designed with tribal audiences and issues in mind, integrating tribal case studies and tribal professionals as part of the instructional team. Class size is kept small to ensure a high level of interaction and one-on-one training opportunities.

Most of ITEP’s technical air quality training courses are conducted at the TAMS Center, located in the USEPA National Center for Radiation Field Operations (NCRFO) near the University of Nevada Las Vegas campus in Las Vegas, Nevada. Classes are held at the state-of-the-art Virgil Masayesva Environmental Learning Center. Courses feature tribal, EPA and ITEP instructors and emphasize tribal perspectives.

Courses available at the TAMS Center:

  • Air Pollution Technologies for Tribes

Individual Training/Professional Assistance (PA:

The TAMS Center also provides training to individuals based on requests to the TAMS Center for specific types of training. Whenever possible, the TAMS Center tries to identify groups of individuals that can benefit from the same training, and the hands-on guidance is tailored to their specific needs. Instruction can take place at the TAMS Center or at the tribal site. Please contact Darlene Santos for more information about individualized assistance.

NOTE: Not all courses are offered every year; some are occasionally offered at other locations. Courses that are not taught every year could be offered if needed in a mini-course format.
